Being available since 2015, BeamNG.drive has since become a household name among simulation enthusiasts who look for more than the “traditional” sim racing experience.
Developed and published by an independent Germany-based studio, it is best known for its dynamic soft-body physics which make it one of the most realistic games on the market right now in this regard.
BeamNG.drive differs quite a bit from “traditional” racing games that focus on track racing or linear stages. While it may not be as graphically impressive as some other modern contemporaries, the unique and realistic physics engine and open-world design are the center point of this game.
A capable CPU, graphics card, and at least 16 GB of RAM should be the baseline. Since BeamNG can get quite demanding in heavier simulation scenarios and expansive maps, you will get the best experience with the recommended specs. However, it certainly won't hurt to go even beyond the recommended settings as the game is ever evolving.
BeamNG.drive is an open-world driving game available for PC and still in early access. It currently features 12 environments to explore including tropical jungle passages, deserts, urban areas, highways, and more.
You can drive dozens of refined vehicles from compact cars to massive trucks. One defining feature is the vast customizability of different car parts such as wheels, engines, suspension, and more. This allows for creating just about any driving experience you have in mind. Even the physical properties of the in-game environment can be changed.
The game comes with several different game modes with hundreds of playable missions. It is also extensively moddable by the community adding user-generated content.
Since BeamNG.drive has multiple car classes and types, a universal set up that covers all basics is a good starting point. The CSL DD Ready2Race Bundle (8 Nm) gives you the CSL DD wheel base, a round steering wheel, and CSL Pedals which can later be upgraded with the CSL Pedals Load Cell Kit. If you race at a desk or table, consider getting the CSL DD Table Clamp or ClubSport DD Table Clamp. If you want to have a sturdy and rigid cockpit, the CSL Cockpit offers a great entry point.
