Fanatec Sim Racing Configurator: Your Guide to the Perfect Setup

Last updated:

For newcomers to sim racing, selecting the ideal hardware can feel overwhelming. Between wheel bases, steering wheels, pedals, and compatibility concerns, the process often demands time and research. To simplify this journey, Fanatec has introduced the Sim Racing Configurator, a tool designed to help sim racers - whether beginners or experts - build the perfect setup tailored to their needs.

Step one: Choosing your gaming platform

compatibility

Due to licensing requirements, your gaming platform may limit some hardware options - to make this more transparent, the configurator asks you to choose your platform in a first step.
Every Fanatec product is compatible with Windows PC by default, giving PC users maximum flexibility. For PlayStation users (PS4 or PS5), the key requirement is a PlayStation-licensed wheel base, such as the GT DD Pro or the ClubSport DD+. Once connected, any Fanatec steering wheel or pedal becomes PlayStation-compatible, providing a wide range of customization without limiting options.

For Xbox users, compatibility works differently. In the Fanatec ecosystem, the Microsoft compatibility chip is located inside Xbox-licensed steering wheels. By attaching one of these wheels to any Fanatec wheel base, the entire connected setup (including pedals and accessories) becomes Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S compatible. This straightforward approach allows Xbox users to expand their system easily, provided they use with the correct Fanatec steering wheel.

NOTE! The configurator will display suitable products to choose from once you select your platform, but if you choose multiple platform, you will also be shown options that do not enable compatibility of other platforms.

Step two: Defining your driving style

Driving Style

Once you've chosen your platform, the configurator filters products accordingly and moves to the next stage: your driving style. At this point, a 3D model of your setup begins to take shape, giving you a visual preview of your chosen components. While rigs are not part of the configurator setup, the configurator will show your setup as part of a cockpit for visualization purposes.

Next, you will be asked to select your Wheel Base and Steering Wheel. For example, if your passion is Formula racing, the configurator will show you compact wheels with smaller diameters, optimized for the fast, precise reactions required by open-wheel cars. On the other hand, endurance or GT enthusiasts may prefer larger, rounder wheels for comfort and control during long stints.

After you've chosen your wheel, you'll be asked to select pedals - a crucial element for immersion and precision. Options range from the CSL Pedals, a simple two-pedal set (accelerator and brake), to the modular CSL Elite Pedals V2, which can be used with or without the clutch pedal. For those seeking top-tier performance, the ClubSport Pedals V3 provide a fully equipped three-pedal solution, widely used in professional sim racing events.

Finally, add-ons are always an optional addition to your personalized rig.

A smarter way to build your setup

By guiding users step by step, the Fanatec Sim Racing Configurator eliminates confusion and ensures every racer builds a system perfectly suited to their platform, driving style, and preferences. Whether you’re chasing lap times in Formula cars, mastering GT endurance races, or simply starting your sim racing journey, this tool transforms the decision-making process into an exciting and efficient experience.
