RaceRoom Racing Experience (R3E) is one of the oldest, still actively played racing sims in the PC space today. First released in 2013, it has steadily expanded its content and still gets regular updates. This makes R3E a favorite among those who crave speed and compete with others online.
Since the game was released more than 10 years ago, R3E should run on pretty much any relatively modern PC. The very moderate specs allow for high in-game graphical settings while maintaining high framerates as well.
To get the most out of your experience though, you should have at least 16 GB RAM and a more modern graphics card with at least 8 GB of VRAM. If your PC is having a hard time, try lowering some settings until you find a mix of performance and visuals that feels right.
If you are planning to race online a lot, a broadband internet connection with a low ping is also highly recommended.
This sim (available on Steam) is free-to-play. From the get-go, you’ll have access to a selection of free content in both single- and multiplayer. You can then decide whether you want to invest more – like in individual cars, tracks, or comprehensive content packages.
The game features different official race series like DTM, WTCR, the WTCC and ADAC GT Masters. It also offers classic, Formula cars, and even truck racing. In total, around 270 vehicles and approximately 70 tracks are available.
Since RaceRoom has a heavy focus on GT and Touring cars, a wheel like the CSL Steering Wheel SPARCO® GT is a great fit at a reasonable price point.
If you want to have a higher-end experience, consider the Podium Steering Wheel GT3 Endurance. It combines the ClubSport Wheel Rim GT3 Endurance with the Podium Button Module Endurance, Podium Advanced Paddle Module, and Podium Hub for a feature-rich steering wheel of the highest quality.
For maximum immersion, the Podium Steering Wheel BMW M4 GT3 is the ultimate option. This steering wheel was developed in cooperation with BMW M Motorsport, and is the actual wheel made for the 2022 BMW M4 GT3 race car, which can be added to your collection in RaceRoom.
