The streets of Tokyo are iconic – not only in real life, but also in racing games. The Shuto Expressway in particular stands among one of the most recognizable and unique areas. Developer Genki has a long tradition in bringing these legendary roads into the virtual world, beginning in 1994 with Shutokō Battle '94: Drift King for the Super Nintendo, and the first installment of Tokyo Xtreme Racer in 1999 for the SEGA Dreamcast. With the latest installment in the series, Genki returned to the IP after almost 18 years since the last entry.
Tokyo Xtreme Racer is a single player experience with a focus on arcade gameplay. Over 450 rivals with unique personalities appear on a sprawling map in “Spirit Point” (SP) battles – making each encounter distinct and engaging. The game offers more than 30 officially licensed manufacturers, including real-world vehicles and aero parts, a well-thought-out progression system, and a plethora of tuning options. Being received very well by players and critics, Tokyo Extreme Racer earned the “Award for Excellence” at the Japan Game Awards 2025.
Tokyo Xtreme Racer is available on PC and PlayStation®5.
On PC, you can choose freely between every component of the Fanatec ecosystem without limitations. You can combine any wheel base, steering wheel, pedals, and add-ons without having to worry about compatibility. The CSL DD QR2 Ready2Race Bundle, for example, offers a great entry point into the Fanatec ecosystem, allowing you to also upgrade in the future.
On PS5, you will need a PlayStation®-compatible wheel base. Having a PS-compatible Base will also allow you to choose between any other wheel, pedal set, and add-on, and use them on Sony’s console.
In both cases, you can also use the Fanatec Sim Racing Configurator to guide you to a setup that fits your needs best.
