When starting with sim racing, many new track dwellers begin their journey using a table clamp. The CSL DD Table Clamp and ClubSport DD Table Clamp are compatible with both wheel bases and give you all the accessories you need to mount your base.
If you want to elevate your driving experience to the next level, you should consider hard-mounting your base and pedals to a more sturdy and rigid surface like a cockpit or dedicated wheel stand. Doing so will give you even more refined feedback and help you with consistency.
If you hard-mount your equipment, just be sure to have all the hardware and accessories ready before you start your build.
Aside from Fanatec’s cockpits like the ClubSport GT Cockpit and CSL Cockpit, the CSL DD and Gran Turismo® DD Pro wheel bases are compatible with a wide range of other cockpits and mounting solutions. These are all built differently and are non-standardized, so the thickness of mounting plates or available hole patterns can vary. This is why the CSL DD and Gran Turismo® DD Pro wheel bases do not come with included mounting bolts. But they do already come with the required T-nuts as pictured above.
The wheel bases’ T-nut rail system allows for different mounting configurations like bottom mounting and side mounting. And since the T-nuts can freely be moved within the rails, your setup is even more adjustable.
The bolts you will need to get are dependent on the thickness of the mounting surface or rig you will be using. Use M6 bolts with a length of 10 mm + the thickness of your mounting surface. So, if your mounting surface is 5 mm thick, the M6 bolts must be 15 mm.
Note that if your bolts are too long, you might damage the housing of your wheel base when mounting. The base might also not be mounted securely and show some movement. In this case, you can use washers to make up for the incorrect bolt length.
For the same reasons as explained above, CSL Pedals also do not include bolts for mounting. Just like for the mounting surface for your wheel base, pedal plates come in a large variety of shapes and sizes.
The two mounting spots in the front especially need a specific bolt length, since the CSL Pedals have threads there. Use M6 bolts with a length of 22 mm + the thickness of your mounting surface. Also be sure to use the hard mount spacers included with your pedals.
For the rear mounting, use M8 bolts and nuts. Here, bolt length is not as important as for front mounting. The bolt and nut should be properly matched - the bolt should not be too long, and the nut should fully engage the threads for a secure hold.
