One of the most common features of modern sim racing wheels is the shift lights, or “RevLEDs” that illuminate based on engine speed (revolutions per minute), helping drivers nail the timing of their upshifts. Although racing games tend to offer effective shift indicators within the HUD or via the in-game cockpit rendering, there is a clear advantage in having real lights on your physical wheel: the brightness and position of the LEDs makes it easier to see in your peripheral vision compared to an in-game display.
The Fanatec App is preloaded with precise LED patterns for a great number of popular cars, so you might not need dig into the customization options. The sim’s default shift indicator output. In iRacing, for example, enter the Settings menu while in the sim, going to ‘Interface’, and then ‘External Displays’. Then set ‘Use Wheel Shift Indicator’ to ‘Off’. This allows the Fanatec App to work its magic. If you haven’t loaded one of your own presets, you’ll find that the App takes care of it, and the RevLEDs will automatically match the colors and timing of the car you’re driving.
Note: For each sim you use, you should make sure the Fanatec App support is setup in Game Profile Management. A pop-up warning message explains the steps required to ensure the app has control.
You can override the App’s auto preset by changing the priority to ‘User Profile’ instead of ‘Auto Preset’.
Practically all modern sim racing games output a standard rev light signal to Fanatec wheels, and some, like RaceRoom, Assetto Corsa Competizione, and the F1 series offer more advanced native support. Examples of native support on console include Gran Turismo 7 on PS5/PS4, and Forza Motorsport on Xbox.
For all supported PC games, the Fanatec App allows deep customization of the LED behavior based on preference or the car used.
With the Fanatec App, you can:
This flexibility allows LED profiles to be created that match the exact behavior of the in-game car, or to create something entirely unique.
To access this feature, you must first have a Fanatec Steering Wheel with adjustable RevLEDs attached, like the ClubSport Steering Wheel Formula V2.5. Select the ‘Steering Wheel’ category, and then the ‘LED & Display’ tab. On the right you’ll find an image of your wheel, where you can select the RevLEDs to open the customization options.
The Fanatec App is packed with helpful hints on how each option works when you mouseover certain buttons and sliders. And remember that you can always click the question mark icon on the top right to access the FAQs or start an app tour.
