The 10 Most Popular Tracks in iRacing – Part 1

Last updated:

The track is the canvas, the car is the brush, and the driver is the artist. This is one of the many metaphors that captures the unique connection certain circuits create not just in the hearts of real-world drivers, but in those of sim racers as well.

In sim racing, especially on iRacing, a track's popularity is often influenced by special events, which play a major role in shaping the competitive calendar. These events create a sort of pilgrimage to iconic circuits, where sim racers show up in force, aiming for glory and recognition. Some tracks become the proving ground for the best, drawing huge grids and intense competition.

In this article, we’ve selected 10 of the most popular road racing circuits on iRacing. Let’s dive into the first five.

Daytona International Speedway – Road Course

The iRacing season kicks off each year with a bang: the 24 Hours of Daytona. This endurance race features Hypercars, LMP2s, and GT3s battling it out on the Road Course of America’s most famous oval. It's the most participated special event of the year, attracting thousands of drivers and teams. While the layout may seem simple, it’s filled with hidden challenges like the high-speed braking zone into pit lane, which demands perfect timing and control.

Nürburgring Nordschleife

Nicknamed The Green Hell” by Jackie Stewart, the Nordschleife is a legendary track both in real life and in the sim world. With over 170 corners, 300 meters of elevation change, and a relentless rhythm of fast bends, this track pushes every driver to the edge. Mistakes are not forgiven. A blade of grass separates asphalt from the guardrail. It’s also the venue for another major 24-hour event on the iRacing calendar.

Spa-Francorchamps

Continuing the 24-hour race theme, Spa is a crown jewel in both real and virtual motorsport. Known as the “University of Racing,” this Belgian circuit hosts one of the most prestigious endurance races in iRacing. Participation spikes during Spa week, as teams and drivers use it as a final test ahead of the big event. Fast, flowing, and technical. Spa never fails to deliver epic battles.

Watkins Glen

Originally built for Formula 1, Watkins Glen is now a staple in iRacing’s GT and endurance scene. The 6-hour event here is a Sim Racers favorite. Drivers love the high-speed corners and the classic layout. Precision is key: any mistake at these speeds can end your race. Its old-school vibe and consistent popularity make it one of the busiest tracks on the service.

Mount Panorama – Bathurst

Welcome to Australia’s Mount Panorama, better known as Bathurst. This track climbs and drops across a mountain, with narrow sectors and nearly no run-off areas. Average lap speeds are insane, and drivers often brush walls at over 200 km/h. It hosts both the 12 Hours of Bathurst for GT cars and the 1000km race for Aussie Supercars. Racing here is high-stakes, high-reward.
