What is FluxBarrier technology, and how does it work?
Motor performance and efficiency is heavily influenced by the shape of the magnetic field around the stator poles. Through computational analysis of the magnetic flux paths, the stator was designed with carefully positioned air voids, known as flux barriers, which prevent the flow of flux between adjacent stator coils.
By optimizing the stator shape and position and angle of these barriers, efficiency improved by 30% over a traditional motor design of this size. This flux analysis also helped to reduce spatial harmonics, reducing torque ripple and other undesirable motor characteristics.
