Fanatec Hubs are primarily designed as a modular component for those who want to build their own steering wheel, either from other Fanatec modular components or when using a wheel rim or steering wheel from another manufacturer.
They serve as the interface between the Steering Wheel and the Base, facilitating communication and control. Additionally, they feature the Microsoft license, enabling Xbox compatibility on select wheels. Hubs are available in all Fanatec product tiers, however there are some limitations, starting with compatibility:

CSL Universal Hub V2
The CSL Universal Hub V2 comes with a slider mechanism allows users to reposition button island and shifter paddles, thereby allowing them to use a wide variety of wheel rims. In the past, Podium Bases recognized the Hub being used and automatically limited the power to the Wheel, unless a metal QR2 is being used. However the CSL Hub was recently updated to handle the power of a Podium direct drive ("High Torque Mode"), even when using the included QR2 Lite Wheel-Side (QR2L).

ClubSport Universal Hub V2 for Xbox
The ClubSport Universal Hub is available in two versions - The ClubSport Universal Hub V2 for Xbox comes with a Microsoft chip enabling Xbox compatibility, while the ClubSport Universal Hub V2 does not. They can be used with all current rims and are furthermore compatible with many rims from brands like MOMO, Sparco or OMP. The included button clusters can be adjusted or removed entirely, based on user preference.
The Podium Hub is built to withstand the high torque output of Fanatec’s direct drive bases, yet it falls into the mid-range price category - a surprise to some. This is largely because it doesn’t include button modules or a platform-specific licensing chip.
For PC users, no license is needed, and standard inputs can be handled via a keyboard or additional peripherals. If desired, users can attach accessories like the Button Cluster Pack, the detachable button module also used on the ClubSport Universal Hubs, or add shifter paddles for expanded functionality.
Note that the Podium Hub is not compatible with Xbox consoles.
