Guide to Fanatec’s Podium Hub

Last updated:

Fanatec not only offers complete and ready-to-use steering wheels, but also a modular steering wheel system that allows for creating wheels that are tailor-made for one’s personal preferences and needs. At the core of this system is the Podium Hub.

What is the Podium Hub?

If you plan to configure and build your own steering wheel, the Podium Hub will act as the central part. It houses all necessary electronics to communicate with your wheel base, as well as the quick release system to connect it. It also enables force feedback on your base and allows for connecting different shifters, buttons, and button modules.

The Podium Hub is designed for steering wheels with 3x50 mm and 6x70 mm hole patterns. All Fanatec wheel rims are compatible with the hub. Third-party wheels (like from Sparco, MOMO, or OMP) also work, as long as they have the same bolt pattern. This means you can configure your steering wheel for every racing discipline you’d like – be it Formula racing, Rally, Karting, GT3, etc.

Which wheel rim and accessories should I get?

This depends wholly on what you plan to use the wheel for. If you only want to race classic cars for example, you’ll be fine with just the Podium Hub and a wheel rim like the ClubSport Wheel Rim Classic 2. Keep in mind though that you won’t have any buttons on your wheel with a simple configuration like this. So, for functions like menus or in-game navigation, you will have to use a separate controller or your keyboard and mouse.

If you aren’t sure what to get exactly, Fanatec offers a range of bundles that include all necessary parts, like the Podium Steering Wheel GT3 Endurance, Podium Steering Wheel Porsche 911 GT3 R, or the Podium Steering Wheel Monte Carlo Rally.

Setup

Whether you buy your parts individually, or as a bundle – you will have to assemble the steering wheel yourself. Fortunately, this is easy and straightforward. Depending on the complexity of your setup, it can take anywhere from just 5 minutes to 15 - 30 minutes.

Assembly

  • First, attach the included QR2 Wheel-Side to your Podium Hub. You can find detailed instructions in our QR2 Quick Start Guide.
  • If you got an accessory like the Podium Advanced Paddle Module, ClubSport Magnetic Paddle Module, or ClubSport Button Cluster Pack, connect them to the hub before attaching your wheel rim.
  • If your setup includes the Podium Button Module Endurance, place it on the Podium Hub after installing your shifters, and before attaching your rim.
  • Finally, place the wheel rim, align it with the mounting holes of the hub, and attach it with the included bolts.

For comprehensive and more detailed instructions, check our Podium Hub Quick Start Guide.

Updates

  • Download and install the Fanatec App.
  • Once the software is installed, connect your wheel base to your PC and run the setup tool to ensure that the wheel base is recognized and ready to go.
  • Connect the Podium Hub to your wheel base. Update the wheel base’s and hub’s firmware if a new version is available.
