Stream Deck vs XENEON EDGE for Sim Racing Setups: What’s the Difference?

Sim racing setups have evolved into highly customized control environments where efficiency, immersion, and ease of use matter. In addition to choosing the right base, wheel, and pedals, drivers increasingly rely on additional hardware to manage vehicle functions, race strategy, and telemetry. Both the Elgato Stream Deck and CORSAIR XENEON EDGE can be mounted to Fanatec’s ClubSport GT Cockpit, and while these products enhance your rig, they serve different purposes and may support different driving preferences.

Stream Deck: Physical control and consistency

A Stream Deck is a programmable device with physical buttons, each displaying a custom graphic. In sim racing, it can be set up like a digital button box, providing an alternative way to provide game inputs.

A major advantage a Stream Deck offers is tactile feedback. Because the buttons are physical, drivers can rely on muscle memory and activate functions without looking away from the track. This is especially notable on Stream Deck+, which features buttons, a touch screen, and physical dials.

Using the official Fanatec plugin, Stream Deck serves as a real-time telemetry display, showing key data like race position, fuel level, tire temperatures, flag warnings, and more (note: available options are game-dependent).

In addition to telemetry, the Fanatec plugin offers advanced control of the Fanatec Tuning Menu. Similar to accessing the Tuning Menu directly on a Fanatec steering wheel, Stream Deck buttons and dials allow real-time adjustment of hardware settings without interrupting the session. The plugin was developed by Fanatec in collaboration with Elgato and works with all Stream Deck models, with dedicated profiles for Stream Deck XL and Stream Deck+.

It’s worth noting that Stream Deck is more than a sim racing accessory; it effortlessly integrates into your broader setup, empowering creators to streamline streaming, editing, audio control, gaming, and live production.

XENEON EDGE: Visual Information and Dynamic Interaction

The key advantage of XENEON EDGE is the ability to mount it to the front of a Fanatec Base to use as a dashboard. Its touchscreen interface offers flexibility that fixed buttons cannot.

XENEON EDGE functions as a compact touchscreen monitor right out of the box. However, it is recommended to install iCUE to make use of the dedicated SimHub widget. SimHub allows the screen to display as much telemetry as the sim provides, including tire temperature, fuel usage, or lap deltas. XENEON EDGE is ideal for drivers who enjoy data-driven racing and want a modern cockpit-style experience.

Other widget-based features include:

  • YouTube videos and playlists
  • Twitch chat / Discord
  • iFrame widgets
  • Music apps or volume control
  • Virtual Stream Deck

Choosing the Right Tool

Stream Deck’s tactility means you can execute commands quickly and reliably, while the XENEON EDGE’s unique ultrawide display offers more information and flexible interaction that only a touchscreen can provide. Sim racers can also combine both, using the Stream Deck for critical controls and the XENEON EDGE for a broad range of display data, creating a balanced and highly immersive setup.
