The 2026 F1 Sim Racing World Championship concluded with one of the most dramatic finales in the competition's history, as a championship battle that looked settled several times over went down to the final lap – and beyond.
Across the final event in Mexico City, São Paulo, and Abu Dhabi, the driver's and teams' championships remained undecided until the very end, producing three action-packed races and a memorable conclusion.
Round 10 in Mexico City delivered thrilling racing throughout the field, with overtaking battles from start to finish. At the front, Ismael Fahssi celebrated his birthday in style by securing his second victory of the season.
The win elevated the Ferrari driver to second place in the standings on 129 points, reducing the gap to championship leader Otis Lawrence on 140. Meanwhile, Frederik Rasmussen's hopes of mounting a late title challenge suffered a major setback after a difficult race left him finishing tenth.
The penultimate round at Interlagos presented Lawrence with an opportunity to secure the championship early after claiming yet another pole position.
Ferrari responded when it mattered most. Fahssi converted the opportunity into another race victory, while teammate Bari Broumand delivered one of the defensive drives of the season. His determined resistance prevented Lawrence from reaching second place and ensured the championship battle would continue to Abu Dhabi.
Although Lawrence retained a healthy 17-point advantage heading into the final race, momentum appeared to be shifting. The teams' championship was equally tense, with Alpine Sim Racing, Oracle Red Bull Sim Racing, and Scuderia Ferrari HP Esports all still in contention.
Abu Dhabi provided a fittingly dramatic conclusion to the season.
Rasmussen secured pole position, but attention quickly turned to the title fight between Lawrence and Fahssi. Lawrence only needed a top five finish to guarantee the championship, yet a combination of differing tire strategies and pit stop windows created constant changes in the live championship standings throughout the closing stages.
The situation became even more chaotic after the chequered flag. A late one-second penalty applied to Lawrence created uncertainty over the final outcome and triggered a steward review.
After approximately 30 minutes of deliberation, Lawrence was officially confirmed as the 2026 F1 Sim Racing World Champion, becoming the youngest driver ever to win the title.
The teams' championship remained equally close. A crucial third-place finish for Jarno Opmeer in the finale, combined with a retirement for Dani Bereznay, ultimately tipped the balance in favor of Oracle Red Bull Sim Racing. The result secured the organization’s record fourth constructors' championship.
Following a season packed with memorable races, strategic battles, and late twists, the 2026 championship concluded with a finale that will be remembered as one of the most dramatic in F1 Sim Racing history.
