5 Nm: A Great Starting Point

If you’re new to sim racing, 5 Nm is a great place to start. The CSL DD (5 Nm) delivers smooth, precise feedback that’s ideal for beginners, or those upgrading from gear-driven or belt-driven wheels. The CSL DD is compatible with PC, and also Xbox when paired with an Xbox-licensed Steering Wheel. You can upgrade it with the Boost Kit 180, which unlocks 8 Nm of torque - this is a significant jump.

The CSL DD is also available to purchase with the Boost Kit included: CSL DD 8 Nm, or you can choose the Gran Turismo DD Pro Wheel Base (8 Nm) - the PlayStation-compatible equivalent. 8 Nm offers some serious strength, and this torque level is widely used by sim racing enthusiasts, even those competing at an amateur or semi-competitive level.

12–15 Nm: Outstanding Performance

If you want a deeper connection with the car, moving up to 12 or 15 Nm makes a real difference. The ClubSport DD (12 Nm) provides more dynamic force feedback, helping you feel weight transfer, traction loss, and curbs with greater accuracy.

At 15 Nm, the ClubSport DD+ goes a step further. And it's PlayStation compatible. This Base is used as part of the ClubSport Racing Wheel F1, the official hardware used in the F1 Sim Racing World Championship.

At this torque level, the dynamic range available means that the finer details of the force feedback signal can be felt in the way the game developers intended.

20+ Nm: Overkill?

The new Podium DD offers 25 Nm of holding torque. This is a serious level of power, intended for the experienced sim racer. In the case of F1 25, if your focus is on driving modern F1 machines, there is little need for this amount of strength. However, if you're looking to broaden your horizons and try other sim racing titles, this Base is the ultimate choice and can be tuned to recreate realistic feedback of almost any type of vehicle.

The bottom line

Ultimately, the right torque level depends on your experience, goals, and rig. For most, 5 to 8 Nm covers everything from casual racing to serious competition. 12 to 15 Nm is the optimal range for precision and realism, with the ClubSport DD+ setting the benchmark in pro-level sim racing with the F1 Sim Racing World Championship.
