F1 Style Wheel for Larger Hands

edited October 2019 in Steering Wheels
I presently have a CSL Elite F1 for PS4 set up.  The grips on the F1 steering wheel feel awkward and small for my hands.  I have tried the McLaren GT3 and it is better, but the newer drivers make it nearly useless on F1 2019 for PS4.  Do any of the other F1 style wheels Fanatec offers have larger grips or different ergonomics, or are they all about the same?  Thanks for any help.

The Formula wheels are all 27cm. Another option would be to use the UHX Hub with a 3rd party Formula style wheel.
  • Thanks, Joseph...but I'm not concerned with the width of the wheel. Rather, I am looking for more height on the grips of the wheel.  I would like more room for my fingers on the grips.  The McLaren GT3 offers about a 1/4" more room and that is enough to keep my hands pain free for several hours of racing. So if anyone can tell me if the newer F1 wheels offer more hand room, I'd appreciate it.
  • Every Formula Style Wheel Rim Fanatec has offered is based on the very same basic model, all are identical in size and hand grip width. However, the limited editions which are sold out and the esport wheel have open Handgrips so at least a bit more room for your hands there.

This is a late reply but thought I'd mention anyway. When I was using the Formula rim on another base I wanted larger grips as well. I used a black cork bicycle handlebar tape. I did a clean job wrapping and used black electrical tape at the end of the grip to secure it. Cork has a wonderful feel and you can wrap layer over layer to make the grips as thick as you are comfortable with. The tension at which you pull the tape when wrapping will also effect the feel... squishy or less so.

I searched for a photo but sadly couldn't find one. :( You can do a clean job with this tape, mine did not look ugly.

  • That is a great idea and I will give that a try.
