Hope you keep peoples credit card details more secure? What is your policy on GDPR regulations? Do you have a management system in place for information security? Is it certified by an accredited auditing body? A company like yours should have management systems in place for quality and information security, if not look into it.....
It’s not the right place to talking about this things but without any doubt I can say that you don’t know what you’re talking about .

It’s NOT possible for companies to HOLDS this kind of data stored on their servers or IT infrastructure.

For this kind of services and transactions a secure ( bridge or Gateway ) are DIRECTLY provided by credit card circuit (VISA , AMEX, V-Pay , Electron , etc ) or e-commmerce negotiation company ( like PayPal ) as implementation on ( e-commerce sections ) of web sites .

The transaction is ( not ) authorized or processed on Companies servers ( FANATEC uses cloud flare hosting provider for web sites and store, probably ) but the transaction is redirected to the credit institute ( credit cards circuits , visa,Amex, etc ) for approvals, it's the same when you pay with services like PayPal.

Your data are encrypted ( at least ) to 4096 bit via dedicated sandboxes protocols and Fanatec or companies ( DON’t know ) in anyway your credit card data... pin... balance... bank account etc...

People are upset , yes , is a bad mistake, ok.. but as security specialist that made all kind of penetration network tests , as Senior System architect & Engineer and Network Security & infrastructure Specialyst, as a cloud & virtualization data center technology specialyst and the list can go so on, I only can say that Some of the comments against Fanatec about this mails leaks and this ALARM ALARM .... are absolutely ridiculous and over exaggerated.

It’s a simple copy & paste mistake over a mail client that everyone can make in the world... This leak are the same thing that happens when you join a telegram of WhatsApp groups ... that can expose your nickname , phone number , device name and type, os version etc.

This is all my emails account, some of them have PayPal services associated linked with my bank account or amazon or iCloud with Apple Pay linked to my Amex Black corporate ( this card have UNLIMITED balance ).

With this infos try to hack just one ... and I’ll Pay you a podium dd2 with the rim you want .

Delayed as expected, but NO mention of DD1 for PS4.....
Excuse me !!!! Where do you see on there Product Page they are selling or mention a DD1 for the PS4.
I do see a Podium Racing Wheel- Officially Licened for the PS4.
    This is a PS4 Steering Wheel for Pre-order ........ not a DD1 Base for PS4.

I can appreciate that many users are upset/disappointed at the recent DD Delay announcement. However I also sincerely believe that many of those customers would be just as (if not more) unhappy if a game/product was released in unfinished / untested state.
Personally, I feel that announcing a delay is far more customer focused than shipping an unfinished product!
A delay such as this can provide customers with an insight into the company's ethics,it allows customers to see that Fanatec is not willing to knowingly ship a less than perfect product, and will not pass the burden onto the customer (returns/refunds/shipping times/repairs etc) and will also compensate those customers, as they clearly respect and appreciate that a delay is an inconvenience to some customers, in one way or another, this demonstrates value, integrity and honesty!
I'd much rather a delay than the headache of owning a less than perfect product.
Fanatec acknowledge and appreciate that this delay is an inconvenience to some customers, and have offered each customer who pre ordered, €349 of compensation, which Is an exceptional offer that really should be accepted by the customers with the same sprit in which it was offered.

Regarding email addresses... Sending a game/gift to anyone on steam exposes your email address, sharing usernames etc is something most of us have already done here voluntarily. People need to look at the situation realistically, we are a family here, a small community of great guys and girls and this really doesn't need to be blown out of all proportion, asking for resignations etc is completly ludicrous?
Most of us are already friends on steam, on other forums and on the track, and while it's not perfect that some emails were shared, it's a small, genuine error that can be resolved/rectified quickly and should have minimal impact to the user. it's likely that most of us had each other's emails anyway

I for one am excited for April 2019. I'm excited to see the podium series shake up the entire SimRacing market, so let's all continue racing, laughing and having some fun over the holidays, while Fanatec take care of business ;)

Let's get back to it

For the tranquility of Fanatec, I assume that very few people worry about e-mail, personally it seems unimportant, a human error. As for the delay, of course, it bothers me, since July I've been waiting with great enthusiasm my DD2 and now it tells me 5 more months ... but I can understand it, it's more disappointment than anger. What bothers me most is to wait 3 days before the launch, I do not understand it. Taking this into account, what I hope now is a product with exceptional quality, the company's greatest effort to launch it as soon as possible and of course, no more delays. On the other hand, my encouragement, support and understanding "in almost everything" for Thomas and the rest of the Fanatec team.

I'm positive that the Podium series will be well worth the wait >:D<
  • *Buyer Beware*

Here is something for everyone to think about for a moment that reminds me of a situation I was in about 10 years ago with a niche market custom audio company that went bankrupt.

This audio company was continuously using pre-orders for cash injections to pay for current liabilities and to pay manufacturers to fulfill prior orders because they were liquidity constrained on the verge of bankruptcy.  This was going on for a couple years.  They had warranty defect issues and things that just didn't make sense in regards to multiple delays etc.  They were also running these fraudulent charity proceed auctions and using those proceeds to cash up.  The objective was to eventually pull themselves out of the liquidity issue at some point as they struggled to hang on.  This all came out in court and owner ended up going to jail for fraud, etc. but in the meantime a whole ton of people got hung out to dry on their orders.

I'm  keeping my pre-order because I have thought this through for myself and am willing to lose $1k in exchange for the rim voucher if it materializes.  I really debated whether I should post this or not because it will likely stir up some doodoo and I would be upset at the parallel being drawn if I was FANATEC.

Ultimately the reason I decided to post is consumers forget there truly is risk when pre-ordering and we should all at least be aware of the risk when the decision is made.

Hopefully everything is well at Fanatec and DD becomes and incredible success that we all get to enjoy.  Someone from Fanatec can contact me if they want me to remove this post.

    Hey Joey,
For clarity, the PS4 Racing Wheel will be an entirely different SKU as it comes with different electronics (there is a security chip included). It will be an entirely separate product as the DD1 will not be PS4 compatible.

This wheel will be PS4 compatible.

  • Fanatec are a good company when compared to some much larger ones. Ive just been through the mill with Microsoft who have without doubt the worst customer service on the planet. Although I have not preordered the DD (was very close) I think the offer of the free wheel for a value of €350 is unheard of, a really significant and kind gesture of goodwill. Remember all companies are in it to make money and a gesture like this is UNHEARD OF in this day and age.

And regarding the email issue. Guys just remember nobody is perfect and we all make mistakes. One day YOU will all make a mistake and I hope for everyone's sake we are all forgiven when we do!

I hope whomever made the email mistake, turning an already bad day into a disastrous day is completely forgiven if they are genuinely sorry. Mistakes can and do happen and make no mistake our emails are already out there for spammers as it is. I'm sure we all already get some amount of spam.

None of these errors were done on purpose, a sincere sorry proven by the very generous offer is an amazing show of goodwill and loyalty to customers and I hope people appreciate that after they cool down and get over the understandable disspointment. People are more disappointed than normal for the main reason that these DD wheels appear to be soooo good.
This is the feeling I had when I got my email of the delay and then of the accident, but I couldn't have put it in better words. There are people who prey on situations such as this in hopes of getting something more, but not this guy. Thanks Thomas and Fanatec team for making sure what I receive is the product you envisioned it would be and for truly showing care for your customers with the offers given. Going to start saving for the next Fanatec breakthrough in SIM Racing Technology like new pedals, hint hint, customer for life's achievements and mishaps.
  • Umm. Wtf? I'm currently on a month long holiday just so that I could try my DD2, which I've been waiting for, for the last year with no wheel base, as I sold the v2 in Feb. Now I have to wait another 4 months? Awesome. I'll just sit here twiddling my thumbs for a month. Wow. So you only just noticed there's a fault ONE week before release? If it only affects 0.7% of the units, why not just send them out and fulfill this infamous "5 year guarantee" worth £300? I'll take my chances. It's not as if anyone expected a fanatec wheel base to be reliable anyway. That's why you offered the extended warranty right? Sorry if I sound angry, it's because I am. April. Really.

There is no DD1 base for PS4. When they announced the CSL Elite for the PS4, it was about a year before they then rolled out the CSL Elite + base that was a licensed base without a wheel.

I think the PS4 DD base + wheel combo will be the only available options for the forseeable future.

Delay is not a big surprise IMO. But there's another thing: every time people (and personally I'm) was asked about Podium Racing Wheel preorders You answered about soon preorders start and the same release terms in December, but You kept silence and waited until today. Now You "offer a special gift as a gesture of appreciation" to all preordered DD1/DD2 but no apologies to PS4 users, who waited as well as DD1/DD2 customers. I find it's really unfair to PS4 users and feel dumped because I decided to purchase PRW from the begining, even before DD1/DD2 preorders were opened (at september). Now I must decide what to do with (my not even unpacked) setup: to wait for 5 months more without any racing or to order entry level solution that I don't want :-?

    Now what we have:
    PC   DD1 will get DD2 + F1 2019 for 999,95€ (and some auction discounts of 10€)
    PS4 PRW will get DD2 + F1 2019 for ???

My personal result: I've lost profit on Bank Deposit because I withdrawn means from account and converted them to euro currency for fast PRW pre-order that You promissed "soon". Futhermore I will must pay 30% over the price for customes clearence since next year (for any orders over 500€). It's not an anger but a frustration and indignation when You ignor PS4 users.. :-S And that is my first expirience with Fanatec after 10 years of Logitech and Thrustmaster and such kinf of confusion from the begining :(
  • Dear Fanatec

Can you repeat the Black Friday offer on the CSL Elite wheelbase for PS4 by sending out some discount codes?

I ordered the DD2 on July 13th and currently have no wheelbase. I would have purchased the CSL PS4 wheelbase if I had been informed about the delay sooner.

    Thanks
  • Received my email today.  Unfortunately, this is typical for the SIM Racing community.  Manufacturers are long on hype and fail at delivery.  Recent examples are the McLaren wheel and an H shifter by a Dutch manufacturer.  Lot of hype at exhibitions but ultimately can't get it done.  My expectations are the 2018 F1 wheel will be delayed and the 2019 F1 wheel is pure conjecture. Ordered a set of premium pedals from another manufacturer who quoted 2 weeks until shipment.  Guess what? Delayed!!!  Everyone does it!  What a bunch of clowns!

Fanatec needs to do some deep sole searching on who they are and what they are capable of.  They are not prepared for the position their Marketing people put them in.  They have demonstrated failure and delays.  They should stop any discussion of Podium anything until they can figure out what the hell is going on.  The people heading these projects should be demoted or released.  That is reality, that is the real world.  Produce results or die.  By charging full price long before they can deliver is indicative of a company that does not have the financial resources to fund their product development.  I will never again pre-order anything from this company.  I hope they make it, but have my doubts with the current staff.  So far I have about $2400 US pledged to a company (DD2 + Porsche 918 wheel + 2018 F1 + tax  + shipping) that is committed to delivering nothing on a non specific date.  Keep this up Fanatec and you will die.  Time to clean house of the dead wood.

OK, venting done.  Constructive advice.  Fanatec's explanation is rooted in a belief of component failure vs. systematic failure due to the low failure rate, but the long wait indicates they fear a Systematic failure.  If a Systematic failure due to design error, it is time to pay to bring an expert in as your development time is about expired.  Money spent to bring in a competent engineer at this point is money well spent in the long term.
  • I think it is great that a company prides itself on excellence, and would delay product launch in order to finish it off. The extra wheel is above and beyond what any other sim company would ever offer as a good faith gesture. Waiting a few months more so that you are delivered a better working product.... with a free wheel !!!! Is a far better offer than delivered tomorrow and fails in a few days use. !
  • I think this is an amazing decision from Fanatec!

I was already expecting a delay and the work and troubles they have to go through to get this wheel perfect must be hard. I am actually really happy that you decided to take 5 more months to get a perfect product. I dont understand how people can complain, they are not smart people for sure..

Giving this extra wheel as a compensation definitely makes up for the delay and im more than happy to wait for the 5 months. I'm happy i chose fanatec, and i will always stay with you guys! Thank you for being so awesome with customer care and support :) <3 <3

By the way why are you guys complaining about the email leaked? WHO CARES? Its a simple damn email what is wrong with you guys?
  • Thanks for the kind gesture. Do we get to see the new wheel before we decide if we want the wheel or voucher?

You have so right. It can't be said better than you wrote it. Folks, STOP this HATE FANATEC and instead use your heads. They are making right decision for US.

For fanatec : IMHO, voucher really would be better than just some wheel rim...
  • Did it mean‘s that the DD1 is better than the DD1-Ps4? Or is the Chip only activ when Play with the ps4? And when you Switch to PC it‘s a normal DD1? Cheers!

Is there any chance of a discount for PS4 owners that have been planning on ordering when the preorders start?  I'm disappointed to miss out on the included wheel as I definitely would have preordered way in advance if I could have and don't mind waiting.  I know we don't have money on the line, but we have been planning builds and selling our old wheels in preparation for December (also bought a VR headset for it).  Maybe if we preorder in the first 24 hours we get the wheel as well?  Would be a nice sign to us console folk!
  • I am disappointed, as I'm sure everbody, including the people at Fanatec, is.

I also got my McLaren wheel a few days ago, it will have to wait until April before I can use it.

I'm sure a simple malfunction that causes the wheels to die wouldn't have triggered this, so I applaud the decision to take some time to fix all serious issues (fire hazard? Rogue rotation?).

The Podium series is exactly what I have been looking for, and I'll take the wait time and use the generous credit to get another rim. Maybe a Porsche rim so I also have a larger, round wheel?

@Everyone who sold their stuff in anticipation of the base arriving soon:
You should probably have waited for shipping confirmation. Maybe you can find another second hand base for a similar price until April?

I'm totally OK with all that.

The most important is a final product with no compromise and a very good reliability to be quiet in the future, and for that I prefer waiting a few months more !!!!
To me, it's a good décision from Fanatec.

  • I was really looking forward to my DD wheel since i am still using a logitech g27 right now. I even took a few days off next week to properly "nerd" some sims with the new wheel. To all the negative ppl here: they could have taken you money (saitek style) and either deliver you a broken product or hope that it breaks after warranty. So fair play to Fanatec for doing what they did.
  • I had my e-mail adress leaked, along with about 4-500 other people in the first delay message sent out by Fanatec. Can we expect an official statement from Fanatec regarding the issue?
  • One thing to think about too is what is to say the April delivery date will be kept? It is certainly possible there may.be a further delay after that as well if something new shoes up along the way then as well. It could be another 12 months until release. Who is willing to wait that much longer?
  • The 2019 F1 steering wheel is also a limited edition. There is no good reason to have products with very useful features a lot of people would actually want be exclusive to a limited edition product.

I just checked the financial results of Endor AG (the company that operates under the FANATEC name)

    http://www.endor.de/images/pdf/2018/Geschaeftsbericht-Endor-AG-2017.pdf

    Revenue 2016:
    10 Mio Eur

    Revenue 2017:
    17 Mio Eur

    Profits after Taxes 2016:
    800k Eur

    Profits after Taxes 2017:
    1.5 Mio Eur

To me, that looks like a healthy company. No reason to get the pitchforks and scream panic. Fanatec are a leader in a growing market.
  • Hmmmm Maybe I will Change My DD2 order to the PS4 DD wheel since they will all be available at the same time.
