Understanding the Fanatec ClubSport GT Cockpit Keyboard Tray Compatibility

Last updated:

The Fanatec ClubSport GT Cockpit is a high-quality sim racing frame built for stability, precision, and long-term durability. Designed with serious sim racers in mind, it features a strong tubular steel construction, making it capable of handling even the most powerful direct-drive wheelbases without flex. The cockpit’s ergonomics are highly customizable, offering adjustable positions for the seat, pedal tray, and wheel mount to suit a wide variety of users.

One of the standout aspects of the GT Cockpit is its modular design. This allows users to expand their rig with a variety of compatible Fanatec accessories, such as monitor stands, shifter mounts, and keyboard trays. However, when it comes to installing the GT Cockpit Keyboard Tray, there are some important details to be aware of before purchasing.

Mounting options and compatibility limits

It is important to note that the ClubSport GT Cockpit Keyboard Tray is not designed to be installed directly onto the base cockpit frame. Instead, it is intended to mount onto a separate structural component: the GT Cockpit Shifter Mount.

Without this mount, there is no way to attach the keyboard tray securely, as the cockpit does not include built-in support points for it. This can be easily overlooked by users who assume the tray attaches to the main frame by default, since this item is an official ClubSport GT Cockpit accessory.

For this reason, the naming of the GT Cockpit Shifter Mount can be misleading. However, this mount acts as a general-purpose mounting platform for additional accessories, including the keyboard tray. In other words, users who don’t plan to use a physical shifter should not be deterred by the terminology.

Note: The Shifter Mount must be chosen based on the side you wish to add your accessories to (left or right) and your color preference (black or white).

The GT Cockpit Accessory Mount – A different function

It’s also important to clarify that the GT Cockpit Accessory Mount – a different part that attaches at Wheel Base-level to the Cockpit to hold devices like button boxes or tablets – cannot be used in place of the Shifter Mount. Although it may seem like a logical alternative, it lacks the correct positioning and attachment points needed for the keyboard tray.

Cockpit setups with both a Shifter and Keyboard Tray

For those considering a Keyboard Tray as part of their GT Cockpit setup – whether for racing telemetry tools, sim dashboard apps, or everyday PC use – the GT Cockpit Shifter Mount must be factored in. If you plan to mount the Keyboard Tray on the same side as your Shifter, only one Shifter Mount is required. However, if you want to install the Keyboard Tray on the opposite side, you’ll need to purchase a second Shifter Mount. In either case, it's important to decide in advance whether you'll mount these accessories on the left or right side of the cockpit, as the design and compatibility vary depending on the chosen side.
