With the launch of the Podium DD Wheel Base, Fanatec expanded its high-end direct drive lineup and redefined performance standards for sim racers.
Prior this release, the Podium DD1 and DD2 were Fanatec's flagship direct drive wheel bases designed specifically for sim racing enthusiasts and esports professionals. Both models feature custom-designed direct drive motors, ultra-fast acceleration, extremely low cogging torque, and highly detailed force feedback, delivering an immersive and realistic driving experience.
The DD1 and DD2, originally released with a QR1-type Quick Release, are both built with a high-quality aluminum housing, fully integrated electronics without an external control box, and the QR2 automotive-grade quick release system. They also include a 2.7-inch OLED display, a torque key for power limitation, 1000 Hz USB polling rate, and full support for accessories such as shifters, handbrakes, and pedals. Compatibility includes Windows PC and Xbox (when paired with an Xbox-licensed steering wheel).
The main difference between the two is torque output.
Additionally, the DD2 features carbon fiber side panels instead of brushed aluminum and includes the Podium Kill Switch as standard, offering an emergency stop and dedicated power button. The Kill Switch is optional on the DD1.
The Fanatec Podium DD is built upon the technological success of the ClubSport DD and ClubSport DD+, but pushes performance even further. Its standout feature is 25 Nm of holding torque, not peak torque. This is a crucial distinction: unlike DD1 and DD2, which focus on peak torque values, the Podium DD maintains 25 Nm consistently under all operating conditions, with a peak overshoot of 33 Nm.
Other key highlights include:
The Podium DD also includes a preassembled 100 mm shaft extension, allowing optimal monitor placement behind the wheel base.
While DD1 and DD2 remain powerful and proven options, the Fanatec Podium DD sets a new benchmark with sustained high torque, advanced motor technology, and next-generation force feedback, making it the most advanced Fanatec wheel base to date and a worthy successor to the preceding Podium Wheel Base line.
