Developed together with BMW M Motorsport, the Podium BMW M4 GT3 wheel represents the cutting edge of racing technology in the increasingly sophisticated world of sim racing. Developed by Fanatec and BMW M Motorsport for the 2022 BMW M4 GT3 race car, this wheel is the first of its kind.

The development of the Steering Wheel began virtually using advanced CAD technology, allowing engineers to refine the design before producing physical prototypes. The goal was to create an optimized version that required no further iterations once testing began. Prototypes were then produced using 3D printing in Fanatec’s in-house laboratory, which was followed by real-time feedback from BMW Works drivers like Philipp Eng. The feedback focused on fine-tuning various aspects of the design that incorporated both BMW’s and Fanatec’s commitment to precision engineering by giving careful attention to design elements like grip thickness for both gloved and bare hands.

Sim racers, just like real-world drivers, need responsive control and a realistic driving experience. The M4 GT3 steering wheel's design considers not only the physical demands of endurance racing but also the need for full immersion in the virtual world. The Podium Steering Wheel M4 GT3 is designed for extreme racing conditions, with 12 front-facing buttons, 2 rear buttons, and magnetic push-pull paddle shifters for quick and precise control. It features Hall sensors on the encoders and clutch paddles for accuracy, and programmable RGB LED backlit buttons.

In order to withstand the intense forces of GT3 racing, Fanatec developed a cutting-edge, multi-layer carbon fiber body, with durable Shore 60 rubber hand grips molded over the carbon. This approach reduced rotational inertia while maintaining strength and durability. The forged carbon surface and anti-reflective coating created a unique visual flair.

Fanatec’s Podium Steering Wheel BMW M4 GT3 exemplifies the future of racing steering wheels, enhancing performance in both real-world and virtual environments. Having access to the same wheel for their simulators, professional drivers can train in the most immersive sim environments in preparation for real-world races.
